OKANAGAN MISSION VALLEY PETITION
to proclaim a parcel of land a public commons
and that a road should be built.
from the Sessional Papers of the British Columbia Government, 1890
extracted by Hugh Armstrong
PETITION
The Honourable the Members of the Legislature of British Columbia at Victoria.
That whereas a continuous belt of land, extending along the mountain close
to Okanagan Mission Valley, has been purchased from the Government;
And whereas there is no road for stockmen to drive their horses and cattle
to the mountain range contiguous to this purchased land:
We, the undersigned petitioners, pray you to proclaim the land east of this
purchased land, between Mission Creek and Scotty Creek, a public commons.
We also respectfully pray that a road be gazetted from the waggon road at
the north-west corner of Section No. 22, Township 26, due east six miles through
to the public commons applied for, and to provide that no barbed-wire fences be
allowed on this road, as such fencing would prove dangerous when driving stock.
And we will ever pray.
